SCDRRRA Pinewood Derby Rules - Version 2.0

 

1.    Car Kit. The only authorized car kit that can compete in the Royal Ranger Sectional and/or District competitions is the Official Royal Ranger Pinewood Derby Kit from Gospel Publishing House Item number 18MR7540.

 

2.    Race Car Specifications:

        a.    Overall width not to exceed 2 3/4 inches.

        b.    Minimum inside dimension (width) at wheels 1 3/4 inches.

        c.    Overall length not to exceed 7 1/2 inches.

        d.    Overall height not to exceed 3 inches.

        e.    Minimum ground clearance 3/8 inches.

        f.    Total weight not to exceed 6.0 ounces.

 

3.    Race car Restrictions:

        a.    No washers, bushings, spring suspension, or bearings may be added to wheels.

        b.    No loose materials are permitted.

        c.    Weights cannot be taped onto the car.

        d.    Cars must be free wheeling, no starting attachments allowed.

        e.    A race car may only be raced for one year.

        f.    Each car will be allowed to register in only one category per level of racing during a racing event.

        g.    Each contestant may register only one car in his/her age group and, if they chose, one car in the unlimited class.

        h.    Any car built to enter the "Best of Show" must meet all rules and race in the appropriate category.

Note:  Category defined as Ranger Kids, Discovery Ranger, Adventure Ranger, etc.  Level of Racing defined as Outpost level, Sectional level, District level etc.

 

4.    Lubrication:  Lubrication must be dry black powdered graphite only.

 

5.    Wheels and Wheelbase:

        a.    Wheels must be as supplied in the kit, no alterations permitted. (Minor sanding of wheels to remove imperfections is allowed.)

        b.    Wheel base must remain as received in the car kit. Wheelbase is defined as the distance between axles. The only Wheel base alteration allowed is changing the depth of the axle slot in order to modify the ground clearance of the car. The car must still conform to all specifications in Rule 2.

 

6.    Inspection:  Race officials will inspect cars at registration and will disqualify those cars which do not adhere to these rules. Those cars which pass inspection will be impounded. Once a car is impounded no modifications, lubrication or adjustments will be allowed until the end of racing.

 

7.    Food:  No food or drink is allowed near the track, inspection area or car impound area.

 

8.    Track:  No one is allowed to cross the track at any time, except race officials.

 

9.    Lost Parts:  Cars which lose parts during a race, except a wheel, will not be allowed re-attach the part or parts.

 

10.    Attendance:  Attendance is mandatory in order to participate in racing. Race officials will determine whether a car will be allowed to race without the registrant in attendance.
