Chartering FAQs & Information

CHARTER FAQ'S

Why do we need to charter?

Your charter allows you to participate in section, district, regional and national events.  If your outpost is not chartered, your boys cannot participate in events like Ranger of the Year or National Camporama.

Your charter fees also help support the national office by providing a large portion of their annual budget, allowing them to provide support back to the local outpost.

How much does it cost to charter?

The national office charter fees are $8.00 per boy and $10.00 per commander.  This includes all commanders, lieutenant commanders, and outpost councilmen.  Charter fees are paid annually.

What does the national office use this money for?

Charter fees make up just over half of the national office operating budget.  It pays for salaries, supplies, curriculum development and more.

Why does the district charge a separate fee?

The SC District charges an additional $2.00 per commander and $2.00 per boy to cover the charter expenses, such as postage and copying.

What is a "Self-Chartering District"?

South Carolina is a self-chartering district.  This means we do all the paperwork associated with the chartering process, and then send a basic report to the national office.

Why are we a "Self-Chartering District"?

For all charters received by the district chartering coordinator during the months of June, July and August, and sent in to the national chartering coordinator before the end of September, the district receives a 5% rebate.  During the 2003-04 charter year, we received a rebate of $115.00.  If all the outposts had chartered during our assigned period, that rebate would have been double.

Being a self chartering district also helps us stay better informed and involved with all our outposts, since we maintain the records ourselves.

When does our charter year begin and end?

Our charter year begins September 1 and runs through August 31.  We begin accepting charters for the new charter year at the district Pow Wow.

When does the High Adventure subscription begin and end?

If you charter during June-August, your first High Adventure magazine will be the Winter edition and your last the Fall edition.  If you charter during the Fall months, you will receive the Spring through Fall editions.  Half year charters will receive only the Summer and Fall, or possibly only the Fall edition, depending on when you chartered.

What if I have more boys join our outpost after we have chartered?

Download the Additional Enrollment form (Adobe format).  Complete the form, attach your check and mail to the chartering coordinator.

Why do non AG churches have to pay a "non AG" fee?

All Assemblies of God churches send monies to the district office from which the district Royal Rangers receive a portion.  This amounts to about $5.00 per church per month.  We believe that non-Assemblies of God churches need to support Rangers in the same way.  We ask each non-AG church to pay a $50.00 fee with their charter to help support district Royal Rangers as the Assemblies churches do.

Where can I get current charter forms?

Download them from the Forms page, or get in touch with the chartering coordinator.

Top of Page

When do I use a half- year charter form?

Half year charters are accepted from January to March of each year.  After March the benefits of a half-year charter is basically non-existent.

I do not see my question here. Where do I go now?

Get in touch with the chartering coordinator or any other member of the district staff.
